Looks-wise, the My Father No. 1 has a classy appearance. The cigar itself has a semi-dark wrapper with an oily sheen that is visible under direct light. There are plenty of veins present, and patting the No. 1 down reveals that it is firm and well-packed. A large decorative band resides near the head that really catches the eye. The band is very colorful and features different tones of green, gold, peach, and red. The My Father name and logo fills out the band. Prior to striking the No. 1 with a match, it has a cold taste and scent reminiscent of earth.
Once in action, the My Father No. 1 burns like a charm. The draw is great, and solid white ash is formed. The burn stays even on its own, making touch-ups obsolete. There is also no need for any re-lighting.
There are plenty of flavors packed into the No. 1 as well, making it a complex treat that is hard to put down. At first there is some sweetness and a bit of cinnamon. A strong dose of leather shoots in that is eventually joined by pepper. There is also a good deal of nutty flavors, as well as a smooth creamy taste that is very pleasant.
Overall, the My Father No. 1 is a hit. It looks good, smokes good, and tastes even better. This is one cigar that does live up to the hype. One possible downside for some could be its price, however. A single No. 1 can be found for around $8 to $9. It also comes in packs of 5 or boxes of 23. At that price point, it may be too high as an everyday smoke. Still, it definitely warrants a purchase of at least a single or a pack of 5 for special occasions, as the cigar is simply that good.
The Don Pepin Garcia My Father No. 1 earns a strong rating of 3.5 out of 4 stars.
