The Grand Cru No. 4 has a very smooth appearance thanks to its light-brown wrapper and solid overall construction. There are a few veins that are visible and feeling the cigar reveals zero soft spots. A bit of oil is present when the cigar is placed under light. The classic Davidoff band sits near the head with its white/gold color scheme and brand name displayed in cursive. Before striking it with a lighter, the No. 4 has a very sweet cold taste and aroma.
When in action, the No. 4 performs favorably. It's draw is a tad on the tight side, but the burn stays even on its own until the very end. There is no need to re-light or touch-up. It also produces some solid, light-colored ash.
The flavors packed within the No. 4 are a decent mix, although it's not overly complex. The sweet taste found before lighting is the first one that appears after lighting, and it slowly moves onto a more creamy flavor. Further into the cigar, some notes of wood and spice appear. The flavors that you do get are enjoyable and smooth. As stated, there seems to be some complexity that is missing to really make this a memorable cigar.
The Grand Cru No. 4 is not a bad choice for beginners, those who enjoy milder cigars, or followers of the Davidoff brand. You do get premium quality, and that is something that cannot be denied. Maybe if there was more complexity present the No. 4 would have caught my attention more. With a single selling for around $10 to $11 each, the No. 4 might be seen as too expensive as an everyday smoke for some. Its smooth and mild profile seem to make it a cigar that you can enjoy at any time of the day, if you can afford it. You can also find it in a pack of five or a box of 25.
The Davidoff Grand Cru No. 4 receives a rating of three out of four stars.
