The 2010 has an appearance that's easy on the eyes. Its Maduro wrapper is dark and has plenty of oil. There is also a good amount of large veins that can be seen. The cigar feels firm to the touch, and there are no soft spots to be found. A large decorative band near the head of the cigar blends in nicely with the wrapper. It displays the Oliva logo, as well as the Serie V Maduro Especial label. The brown, gold, red, and yellow colors on the band are subtle and add to the cigar's overall look. Prior to being lit, there is an earthy aroma and a cold taste of rich chocolate.
Other than a few touch-ups, the burn of the Serie V Maduro Especial 2010 is just fine. The draw is good, and the light-colored that is produced does not flake.
Flavor-wise, there is a nice variety to be experienced. The rich chocolate flavor found in the cold taste is detected first. A bold coffee flavor is next, and that is followed by some very sweet notes. Leather and nuts also make appearances, as does pepper.
The only real complaint one can have when discussing the 2010 version of the Serie V Maduro Especial is its limited availability. The cigar itself is very good, as it offers a solid burn and plenty of flavor. Smokers who tend to go for full-bodied cigars will likely enjoy this selection. A single retails for approximately $10, and boxes of ten are available in the $100 range. That price is a bit higher than the versions from 2008 and 2009. If you enjoyed those previous editions, and are a fan of Oliva cigars, however, you will probably at least want to try one out. Only 5,000 boxes of ten are slated for production, so act fast if you intend on sampling one.
The Oliva Serie V Maduro Especial 2010 earns a rating of 3.25 out of four stars.
