When looking at the Prince Philip, its extremely dark wrapper stands out immediately. It's reminiscent of dark chocolate and has a decent amount of oil as well. There are a few veins that are visible, and the cigar looks smooth overall. A simple band resides near the head that shows the Macanudo Maduro name surrounding a large M. The gold, black, and beige color scheme of the band looks good against the dark wrapper. The cigar feels firm to the touch, and it gives off a scent and cold taste that are earthy.
Once lit, the Prince Philip burns well. It stays even until the end and hardly needs any touching up. It also stays lit on its own. The draw is good, and some solid white ash is formed that looks great when contrasting with the very dark Maduro wrapper.
The cigar's flavors are very mild for the most part and easy on the senses. A really inviting creamy flavor kicks things off that eventually gives way to notes of coffee. Tasty nuts also enter the picture, as does a sweet flavor later on.
The Prince Philip Maduro is one smooth stick. The cigar has solid construction and is without any severe burn issues. The flavors are not exactly complex, but they are pleasant. Beginners can definitely handle the Prince Philip, and those who enjoy smoother cigars should find it to be right up their alley. Fans of full-bodied cigars will obviously find it to be underwhelming. In terms of price, a single goes for around $7.50 each. You can find a cheaper average price if you purchase a pack of 5 or a box of 10. At the single price, some may find it to be a bit much as a daily smoke. If you shop around, however, and get a more favorable price, this is a good cigar to have with your morning coffee.
The Macanudo Prince Philip Maduro earns a solid rating of 3 out of 4 stars.
