gurkhagranres1 I hope you had a great weekend and are ready for some more cigar reviews. Today we have two very different cigars to sample. Up first is the elegant Grand Reserve Robusto from Gurkha. On deck is a rough and gnarly-looking Halloween-themed cigar from Tatuaje called The Face.

Gurkha Grand Reserve Robusto

Per Gurkha, the Grand Reserve is the brand's flagship line. Geared more towards those accepting of flavored cigars, the Grand Reserve is infused with cognac. Gurkha did not choose just any cognac, however, as it selected Remy Martin Louis XII for this particular selection. In case you were wondering, a bottle of Louis XIII retails for around $2,000. Considering Gurkha's reputation for being one of the most premium brands on the market, its not surprising that they chose what is considered by many to be the world's finest cognac to make the Grand Reserve.

The Grand Reserve Robusto measures 6 x 50. There are two other sizes in the line: the 6 ½ x 53 Torpedo and the 7 ½ x 52 Churchill. The cigar's filler and binder are composed of tobacco from the Dominican Republic. Its wrapper, meanwhile, is of the Connecticut Shade variety that has been aged for approximately five years. The Grand Reserve is said to fall into the medium-bodied category.

The presentation of the Grand Reserve is quite impressive, as is the case with many offerings from Gurkha. The brand is known for their ornate packaging, and this case is no different. The cigar comes in a crystal tube that is sealed with wax. The wax adds a lot of style to the tubing, and its melted look is interesting. The cigar itself has a light color and just a bit of oil on the surface. A few small veins are noticeable, and it appears to be smooth overall. It feels firm to the touch with no soft spots. A decorative band sits near the head. The band has the Gurkha logo and a bright red color that stands out amongst the light shade of the wrapper. Before lighting, the scent and cold taste of the cigar are 100 percent cognac.
