Nothing really stands out about the appearance of the Carmelo Blue Robusto, other than its box-pressed shape. It's your average looking cigar, and it has a semi-dark wrapper that has just a tinge of oil. A few small veins are visible, and the cigar feels firm to the touch. A nice blue and gold band resides near the head, and it has the Carmelo name stamped on it in attractive lettering. Before lighting the Blue Robusto, it has an earthy scent and a cold taste that is similar to chocolate.
Once lit, the Blue Robusto is a bit erratic. The burn is uneven and requires some touch-ups. The cigar also tends to go out on its own and requires re-lighting a few times. It does have a good draw, though, and produces a solid white ash.

The flavors experienced while smoking the cigar are enough to keep one interested. At first some chocolate is noticeable, along with some cedar. Coffee flavors are also in the mix, as is some spicy pepper. There is also a sweet flavor that really blends in well with the others. This stick seems to stray more towards the medium-bodied end of the spectrum, rather than the full-bodied one.
It's unfortunate that the Carmelo Blue Robusto presented so many burn problems. Despite those problems, however, its flavors were really a nice surprise. The cigar was not too strong, either, so a medium-bodied fan might enjoy it, provided so many burn issues do not arise. Perhaps a different vitola other than the Robusto might provide a more satisfactory burn. A single can be had for around $6 to $7. Due to its great flavors, it might be worth a shot at that price.
The Carmelo Blue Robusto receives a rating of 3 out of 4 stars.
