Welcome to another edition of Puff cigar reviews. On tap for today we have two quality, yet somewhat pricey cigars to discuss. First up is the La Aurora Preferidos Maduro Robusto. Finishing things off will be the Paul Garmirian Soiree Connoisseur.
La Aurora Preferidos Maduro Robusto
La Aurora proudly holds the title of being the first cigar factory in the Dominican Republic, as they opened up shop their all the way back in 1903. The company boasts many cigars that have been highly rated in the past. Does the Preferidos Maduro Robusto stack up to the rest? Let's find out!
The Robusto vitola is one of the newer releases from the Preferidos Maduro line. It measures 5 x 50. The cigar is composed of a filler blend of aged tobaccos from Brazil, Cameroon, and the Dominican Republic. It has a Dominican binder, and it is topped off with a Brazilian Sungrown wrapper that is aged as well. The Preferidos Maduro Robusto is considered to hover around the medium-bodied mark in terms of strength, and it is handmade in the Dominican Republic.

When looking at the cigar, one can notice that it is a bit rough around the edges, so to speak. The Maduro wrapper is quite dark, and a good amount of oil is visible under the light. The stick is also has plenty of veins and is not very smooth on its surface. Feeling the cigar reveals that it has some give to it. A nice decorative band sits near the head. It has some gold and red touches and shows the La Aurora logo which consists of a lion sitting with some countryside in the background. Maduro is stamped on the label, as well as “Hecho a mano,” meaning handmade. Prior to lighting, the cigar has an earthy scent and cold taste.
