The No. 9 Robusto Oscuro is a very attractive cigar. It has a dark oily wrapper that has a few minimal veins that are visible. The cigar looks smooth overall, and appears to have excellent construction. It also feels firm to the touch and lacks any soft spots. A subtle band sits near the head that displays the Liga Privada No. 9 label in black cursive. The band's light colors stand out against the dark wrapper. Right before lighting, there is a spicy cold taste and aroma.
Any negative burn issues are absent once the Robusto Oscuro is lit. The burn does appear as if it wants to stray, but it corrects itself without trouble. The draw is good, and light-colored ash that stays solid is produced. The cigar also manages to remain lit on its own without any help from a lighter.
The flavors in the Robusto Oscuro aren't necessarily complex, but they are definitely enjoyable. The cigar begins with a spicy flavor similar to the one found in the cold taste. It then transitions into notes of tobacco and earth. A very rich coffee taste appears later on, as does a tad of sweetness.
The Liga Privada No. 9 is the complete package. It looks great, smokes great, and tastes great. It's probably too strong for beginners, but it also keeps from being overpowering. Experienced smokers should enjoy it. A single goes for around $10 each, and it can also be found in packs of 5, boxes of 24, and boxes of 48. If you want to get your hands on one, look around. Many places are sold out or have these on back order. The combination of a limited release and a quality smoke can cause such a scarcity in terms of availability.
The Drew Estate Liga Privada No. 9 Robusto Oscuro earns a rating of 3.5 out of four stars.
