While the Grand Cru Maduro Robusto appears to be constructed well prior to lighting, it's a whole other story once lit. The cigar has a very uneven burn that requires a lot of correcting and touch-ups. It also seems to go out frequently and needs to be re-lit. The burn is not a complete failure though, as the cigar does have a good draw. It also produces long ash that is light in color.

As for the flavors, they are not bad, and the stick does reflect its full-bodied reputation. The cigar begins with a sweet flavor that is much like its cold taste. It also exhibits some earthy tones. Later on a rich chocolate flavor comes into play, and seems to linger throughout. There is also some spicy pepper. The last noticeable flavor is a bit creamy. Mostly, however, the flavors don't seem to alternate or change too much.

The Grand Cru Maduro Robusto is a mixed bag. It has some good aspects, like its draw and ash, and the flavors are decent. The bad aspects, however, seem to overshadow the whole smoking experience. Having to constantly touch-up the cigar and re-light it can get annoying. Rather than seeming to be a time of relaxation, smoking the Grand Cru Maduro was more like work. Also, the flavors were not all that varied, and the cigar became a bit dull to smoke after a while. In terms of price, you can find a single around $5 or $6, and the cigar also comes in boxes of 20 or packs of 5. That's not a terrible price, so if you want to take the gamble, go for it. Full-bodied fans might give it a shot, but it is too strong for those who like milder cigars.

For its burn issues and just “ok” flavor, the Perdomo Grand Cru Maduro Robusto earns a rating of two out of four stars.

Stay tuned for more reviews in the future, and see you next time!
