Rocky Patel Edicion Unica 2011
First up for today’s reviews is the Rocky Patel Edicion Unica 2011. This limited edition cigar was especially made for the brand’s participation in the 2011 Humo Jaguar Honduran cigar festival. To participate in the festival, the cigar had to be a – you guessed it – Honduran puro. Only 50,000 of these cigars were produced initially, but there are still some floating out there on the internet, so I decided to snatch one up. After all, I do love Rocky Patel cigars.
The Rocky Patel Edicion Unica 2011 was released in a Toro format that measures in at 6 x 52. I already mentioned that it is made entirely from Honduran tobaccos, but to give you more of a specific breakdown, it starts off with a filler and binder of Ligero tobaccos from the Jamastran and Talanga Valleys. Completing the composition is a wrapper that is also from the Jamastran Valley. As for the strength of the Edicion Unica 2011, it’s listed as being somewhere between medium and full-bodied.
The Edicion Unica 2011 gives off a solid first impression with its chocolate brown wrapper. The cigar appears to have solid construction with a nice triple cap and a few minor veins. There’s some oil, but not too much. It feels a tad rough to the touch and has no give when pressed. A pair of bands near the head adds a subtle aesthetic touch with their beige/yellowish colors. The top band displays the Rocky Patel name and logo, while the one beneath it showcases the Edicion Unica name and the date of the aforementioned Honduran cigar festival, May 28, 2011. As I give this tasty looking cigar a whiff I detect an earthy aroma, while the pre-light flavor is sweet and chocolaty.
After lighting the Edicion Unica 2011 with ease, the cigar exhibits a burn that is satisfactory. The smoke is thick and cool, and the draw is just about perfect. The gray ash remains solid and only one touch-up is needed. We are A-okay in this department.
