Right from the start, I am impressed with the presentation of the La Sirena Merlion. The huge band near the head is filled with ornate graphics that really catch my eye. In fact, I’ll go as far to say that it is one of the best looking bands I have seen. It looks great against the cigar’s medium-brown wrapper. The Robusto has an oily appearance and some minimal veins running throughout its body. It’s mostly firm and smooth to the touch. Prior to lighting, I detect a spicy cold taste and an earthy aroma.
The La Sirena Merlion Robusto lights with ease and has a draw that is just what the doctor ordered. A good amount of smoke is produced and the gray ash is solid. No touch-ups or re-lights are necessary, which is always a plus in my book. This is how a quality cigar should burn.
Next up is the flavor of the Merlion by La Sirena. It begins with spicy pepper right off the bat. The pepper offers a nice kick, but is not overpowering at all. Soon, earthy notes join in to complete the first third. The second third has a complex profile that includes more pepper, wood, and cedar. The final third is a tasty blend of creamy and nutty notes. Overall, I would call the Merlion medium to full-bodied.
When all is said and done, I was very impressed with the La Sirena Merlion Robusto. I really loved its presentation with the attractive band, and its burn was top-notch. The flavors were nice and varied to keep things from getting monotonous too. At around $10 each, the Merlion is not cheap, but you get what you pay for. Pay that price, and you get yourself a quality cigar that is perfect for beginning or experienced smokers seeking a flavorful treat after a nice meal.
The La Sirena Merlion Robusto earns a rating of 3.75 out of four stars.
