The first third of the Winter Collection 2012 Robusto starts off with a nice mix of spice and sweetness.  I also notice a bit of espresso towards the end of the first third.  The second third showcases stronger spice and we reach the full-bodied mark here.  Coffee, leather, and wood also enter into the equation.  The final third omits sweetness and supplies more coffee and leather, as well as some chocolate and earth.

Seasonal cigar or not, the Rocky Patel Winter Collection 2012 is a solid choice for any time of the year.  It caught me with its appearance, and that translated into a great burn and a nice amount of complexity.  I’d label the Winter Collection 2012 as a full-bodied and full-flavored cigar.  Pick one up if you are an experienced smoker looking for plenty of flavor or if you are simply a fan of Rocky Patel smokes.  You can find it in packs of five or boxes of 20, with a single hovering around the $7 mark.  Not bad for a quality cigar.

The Rocky Patel Winter Collection 2012 Robusto earns a rating of 3.75 out of four stars.

Nestor Miranda 70th LE Nicaragua

The Nestor Miranda 70th LE is a special edition cigar that was announced towards the end of last year.  It was released on Valentine’s Day 2013, which also happened to be the 70th birthday of the man in charge, Nestor Miranda.  To showcase its status as a special cigar, the 70th LE was released in interesting boxes of 12.  Each box contained six cigars from Nicaragua, while the other six came from the Dominican Republic.  Best of all, their “box” was a small keepsake in the form of a classic car that held the cigars within its chassis.  As for the significance of the car, it’s a model that Nestor has supposedly always admired.

The 70th LE comes in just one format – a 7 ½ x 40 Lancero.  I chose the Nicaraguan selection for this review, which features an interior of Nicaraguan tobaccos plus a Nicaraguan Habano wrapper.  Its strength is listed as being somewhere in between medium and full-bodied.
