We have two reviews for you today that differ greatly in terms of price and profile. Up first is the smooth Room101 Connecticut 305C. On deck is the pricy, powerful, and flavorful La Flor Dominicana Salomon.
Room101 Connecticut 305C
It seems as if cigars carrying Connecticut wrappers are growing in popularity. To run with this trend, Matt Booth, founder of Room101 Cigars, decided to release the Room101 Connecticut line. Although many Connecticut cigars are noted for being mild, Room101’s version is a tad different. As Booth puts it, the line offers “Connecticut with a kick!” That sounds like an interesting mix to me, so it’s time to light up a 305C and see just how much of a kick it has.
The Room101 Connecticut 305C measures 5 x 50. Other sizes in the line include the 5 ½ x 44 213C, 6 x 54 404C, 6 x 60 808C. There’s also the 615C, which is a Churchill. The cigar’s filler consists of a blend of tobaccos from Honduras and the Dominican Republic. The binder is Honduran Corojo, and an Ecuadorian Connecticut wrapper completes the composition. As you would expect from a Connecticut-wrapped cigar, the 305C is listed as being medium-bodied in strength.
The Connecticut 305C looks good from the start. The wrapper is light brown in color, and a bit darker than some other Connecticut cigars I have laid my eyes on. There’s a slight sheen of oil, as well as some medium-sized veins. The cigar feels very smooth to the touch overall. It also feels firm and lacks soft spots. The band near the head adds a menacing look to the cigar’s presentation. It features an ancient-looking mask in silver and black that is unique to say the least. I pick up a cold taste of mild spice, while the aroma is of mild wood.
The 305C lights with ease. The draw is superb, and there’s plenty of voluminous smoke to be enjoyed. The burn does require a few touch-ups along the way, but nothing that cannot be handled with a little help from the lighter. The ash is solid and white in color, and my dark shirt thanks me for this.
