There are many things to notice when it comes to the Green Label Oscuro’s appearance, but its dark, oily wrapper is what stands out the most.  It has a very rich color that is enticing, to say the least. There are a few minimal veins that are visible. As I touch the cigar, it feels smooth and has no soft spots. A large band accentuates the dark wrapper with green and gold colors. It features the 601 logo and the Oscuro name. Before lighting, the aroma and cold taste are both quite mild and sweet, which wasn’t really expected.

Once the Green Label Oscuro is lit, it burns like a charm. The draw is tight at the beginning but manages to open up. The dark gray ash is a bit flaky. There’s no shortage of thick smoke. The burn stays even on its own from beginning to end without the need for any touchups.  Re-lights are also unnecessary.

Considering the rich look of the Green Label Oscuro Corona, I subconsciously expect a lot of flavor. Needless to say, it did not disappoint in that aspect.  The first third is a rich mixture of pepper, coffee, and sweetness. The pepper offers a nice kick, but nothing that’s strong enough to bowl me over. The second third continues with the pepper and coffee, and cedar soon comes into the picture. The final third is the most memorable, with notes of coffee, pepper, nuts, and more sweetness.

After all is said and done, I have to admit that I enjoyed the 601 Green Label Oscuro Corona. I really was intrigued by the appearance, and the flavor was very enjoyable. It did have that strength that was promised, but it wasn’t anything unmanageable, which is a good thing.  At a price of $6.75 per single, I feel that the 601 Green Label Oscuro is fairly priced.  It also comes in packs of five, and there are some pretty good deals on boxes of 20 out there that will make each cigar come out to an average price of about $3 to $4, which is pretty tough to beat in my book.  With that being said, I would not recommend this cigar to beginners due to its strength.  If you love Nicaraguan tobacco though and want something with a kick, by all means pick some up.

The 601 Green Label Oscuro earns a rating of 3.75 out of four stars.
