While the Beast looks to be constructed solidly to the naked eye, it seems to disappoint when lit.  It does burn slowly, as expected, but it does so rather unevenly, with some unraveling.  The Beast does give off some solid ash and has a good draw, though.  The flavors experienced while smoking the beast are much more docile than you would expect from just looking at it and hearing its name.  Although there are some hints of pepper and spice, a lot of creamy, chocolate, and coffee flavors show up, as well as shades of leather and wood.

The Special Edition Beast is worth a try if you happen to enjoy Gurkha cigars.  It does have good flavor, although you might experience some issues with its construction and burn while smoking.  Unfortunately, the Beast not only lives up to its name in terms of its size, but also when it comes to price.  The Beast can be purchased for around $20 for a single, and it also comes in boxes of 35.  That’s pretty steep, but it does have something to do with the fact that Gurkha cigars are usually expensive in the first place, and the Beast is limited in production.  That said, the Special Edition Beast earns 2.5 out of four stars.

El Titan De Bronze Redemption Maduro Robusto

elpic1

The El Titan De Bronze Redemption Maduro is a full-bodied cigar and is one of the strongest offerings from the manufacturer yet.  I happen to like the use of Redemption in the cigar’s name, and I am sure it has some sort of deep and mysterious meaning to it, which I could not find.  El Titan De Bronze is fairly new when compared to some of the cigar giants that have been around for many decades.  Only around since 1995, El Titan De Bronze makes its home in Little Havana, producing limited amounts of carefully made cigars at the boutique level.  Master roller Pablo Romay uses his 25 years of industry experience to oversee operations and ensure that only the highest quality cigars are offered to the public.  What better way exists to infuse history and expertise into your company than to staff a hands-on person with decades of experience at the famous Romeo and Julieta factory?  The company hopes to expand beyond their roots eventually beyond Calle Ocho in Little Havana by selling their cigars on a national level.

The Redemption Maduro Robusto measures 5x50.  It also comes in two other sizes: the 5.5x44 Coronita and the 6x52 Toro.  Its filler and binder are both from Nicaragua.  A Mexican San Andres Maduro wrapper tops off the cigar, although the Redemption is also offered with an Ecuadorian Sun Grown Habano wrapper.  As with other cigars from the brand, the Redemption Maduro is made in the traditional Cuban “entubado” style, where they tube the filler and finish it off with a triple cap.

The Redemption Maduro Robusto is an attractive cigar.  Its Maduro wrapper gives it a nice, dark color with some oiliness.  The cigar is pretty firm and solidly built and you can see some veins throughout its body.  It’s decorated nicely with two separate bands.  The band towards the head of the cigar has the company name and logo as well as the Redemption label.  Beneath this band resides another, smaller band with the word Maduro on it to distinguish the cigar from its Redemption brother that comes with the Ecuadorian Sun Grown wrapper.  Both bands have a sharp look and are outfitted in gold, white, and blue.  Before striking a match, the Redemption Maduro gives off a chocolaty taste and scent.
