Hello again!  Today let’s take a look at three offerings from the El Primer Mundo Cigar Company.

El Primer Mundo Cigar Co. has its headquarters in Atlanta, Georgia and was founded by cigar enthusiast Sean Williams.  Williams received the inspiration for his brand while on a trip in Honduras and Nicaragua where he got to see first hand the dedication and skill that goes into producing cigars.  Like a sponge, Mr. Williams soaked in all the information and expertise he could while spending time with the industry renowned Plasencia family.  The family and Nestor Plasencia himself now aid in the creation of the handmade El Primer Mundo cigars at the company’s cigar factory in Esteli, Nicaragua, which is considered to be one of the best manufacturing venues in the business.  The company prides itself in its premium cigars and fine tobaccos which are harvested from the Plasencia farms in Honduras and Nicaragua.  The company chose its name, which translated to English means “the First World”, as a testament to the Third World countries that are the backbone of the cigar industry.  Places such as Cuba, Dominican Republic, Honduras, and Nicaragua provide both the landscape and the dedicated culture necessary to make quality cigars, and the company’s moniker is a tribute to those countries and their people.  Combine the desire and reverence of its founder, and the experience and tradition of the Plasencia family, and you have a strong foundation that should allow the company to make great cigars.

El Primer Mundo Connecticut Shade Toro

The El Primer Mundo Connecticut Shade Toro measures 6 x 52.  A robusto vitola is also available.  It has a filler which is a blend of tobacco from Nicaragua and Honduras.  It has a Connecticut shade wrapper from Nicaragua and its binder is from Nicaragua as well.  It is box-pressed and is considered a mild to medium-bodied cigar.

Looks-wise, the El Primer Mundo Connecticut Shade Toro passes the eye test.  Its wrapper is pretty light in color, and looks smooth as well with the exception of a few veins.  The cigar has a firm feel to it and is well packed.  The black, gold, and white colored band near the head is quite nice.  It has a bit of an old-time look to it, and bears the company and cigar name as well as a map of the world.  The artwork is a nice touch, without a doubt.  Prior to lighting the cigar tastes like vanilla and has a bit of a sweet scent.

The El Primer Mundo Connecticut Shade Toro burns nicely with a good draw and stays lit without needing to spark up your lighter repeatedly.  The flavors are pleasant and not overwhelming, earning the cigar its distinction as a medium-bodied smoke.  From the start you experience a tendency towards sweetness, and there are many hints of vanilla that show up and coincide with its cold taste.  There’s a bit of a honey and cedar flavor as well, that eventually turns a bit spicy and flows into a coffee flavor.  The overall theme though is creamy and sweet.  The flavors suggest that this is a smoke that could go well with a cup of coffee.

The El Primer Mundo Connecticut Shade Toro is a very good smoke.  It has a nice, even burn and its flavors are very tempting.  It’s not so strong that it would knock a novice out, yet strong enough for an experienced smoker, and is good for a wide variety of occasions.  You can get a single for about $6, but they are also sold in boxes of 20.  If you prefer Connecticut wrappers, then you should definitely give this one a try.  For its good burn and nice flavors, the El Primer Mundo Connecticut Shade Toro earns a four star rating.
