Today we will take a look at three selections from a rather new company to the smoking scene, Warped Cigars.  Now, if that name sounds a bit new age to you, it might have something to do with its founder.  Kyle Gellis began Warped Cigars in 2008 at the ripe age of 20 years old.  Yes, that’s not a typo, he was only 20 years old.  Of course, Gellis is a seasoned businessman by now, considering he began his first business venture at only 14 years of age.  His interest in cigars came about from his father’s love for them.  Kyle smoked his first cigar at 16, and four years later founded his own company which produces the cigars out of the Little Havana section of Miami, Florida.  Needless to say, he is a great example of going for your dreams and pursuing your passion.

Now since that’s out of the way, let’s review the Anubis Maduro Corona Gorda, the Abydos, and the Private Blend Torpedo.

Warped Cigars Anubis Maduro Corona Gorda

For a little background on the name first, the Anubis line from Warped Cigars bears the name of the Egyptian god Anubis who was associated with the mummification process and had the heavy responsibility of protecting the dead and sending bringing them to the afterlife.  Perhaps the founder is a big fan of Egyptian mythology, as he has another line in his brand labeled the Osiris, as well as the Abydos, which we will look at soon. 

The Anubis line is handmade in Little Havana and comes in 4 sizes, but for this review we will take a look at the Anubis Maduro Corona Gorda, which measures 5 5/8x46.  Its filler and binder are both from Nicaragua, and it has an Ecuadorian wrapper.  The cigar is topped off with a Cuban triple cap and is considered to be medium to full-bodied.

The Anubis Maduro Corona Gorda is a good looking smoke.  It has a band near the head that appears to be the company’s logo, which is a lion on its hind legs in a fighting stance.  It actually reminds me of a fire breathing dragon for some reason.  The band is colored in a combination of gold, blue, red, and black and gives a nice highlight to the overall look of the cigar.  It’s surprising that they chose not to adorn the band with a picture of Anubis or something close to that nature, as it would have been a nice touch.  The cigar itself is quite dark and looks pretty oily when compared to most.  There are a few veins visible, and it is mostly firm to the touch.  Giving it the once over before lighting reveals a hint of cocoa flavor and an earthy scent.

After being set to fire, the Anubis Maduro Corona Gorda burns evenly for the most part, with solid ash and a decent draw.  The only true negative is that it requires occasional re-lighting.  There is a nice combination of flavors experienced while smoking this stick.  It starts off with some hints of sweetness and nuts.  This escalates into some chocolate and coffee flavors, which are mild yet become more bold as you continue smoking.  Eventually you get a good dose of pepper that mixes in to top it all off, with more hints of coffee that reappear near the end.  A cup of coffee is a good choice to complement this cigar.

The Warped Cigars Anubis Maduro Corona is a good smoke, especially for a rather new company.  The flavors are great and besides the re-lighting issues it has a good overall burn.  The price is not bad either, at around $5 for a single.  You can also buy them in packs of five.  The affordable price, tastiness, and good burn of the Anubis Maduro Corona Gorda earns it 3.5 out of four stars.
