Top25Cigar takes a look at a solid new smoke from United Tobacco.

Premium cigar distributor, United Tobacco, decided to create and distribute their own line of cigars: EO Premium Brands. Two of the three lines, REO and Vibe are made at Rocky Patel’s Indian Tabac factory in Honduras. The Vibe Torpedo is our focus for this review.  We will be following up quite quickly with a review of the REO Robusto as well.  United worked with Patel’s master blender, Jose Fuego to create the new cigars.  The third line is a flavored cigar made at the Cojimar factory in the Dominican Republic and will not be reviewed here.

United Tobacco if some of you remember, is also the company that came out with the Series X cigar.  A cigar that was shut down by a Fuente lawsuit (go figure...Fuente seems to have forgotten their own Mondavi lawsuit experience!) and has created an almost cult like following among cigar enthusiasts.

The company says the VIBE Corojo torpedo is a blend of aged tobaccos from Nicaragua and Honduras topped off with an aged Honduran Corojo wrapper.  We weren't able to ascertain the exact age of the tobacco, so we can not provide the specific vintage.

The appearance of the cigar brought strong "B level" ratings from our reviewers.  Most commented on the silky looking wrapper that was outstandingly consistent in look.

Very nice, slightly oil, silky/shiny wrapper with minimal veins. Smooth and consistent with a beautiful texture. Wrapper looked nearly perfect. Only problem would be the band, which was boring and too modernized.

"The Vibe Corojo Torpedo has a nice looking milk chocolate colored corojo wrapper.  The wrapper was smooth and free of prominent veins.  A good looking, if not particularly sexy cigar."

We ran into a few hiccups on the construction side.  While the general feel of the cigar was good, 3 of the 5 reviewers commented on an abundance of stems in the cigar.  Short of this concern, construction was fantastic.

Flavor and aroma ran the gamut from average to fantastic with our reviewers.  Usually this is a strong sign that we have encountered a good cigar.  When nobody complains, the differing opinions can usually be chalked up to personal flavor preferences.

"Pre-light taste was tangy. On lighting, it began with a slightly nutty taste and an earth quality finish. Very mild cigar throughout. After the first third, the taste became creamier with hints of leather and a long, black coffee finish. The finish became bitter at times as the taste became bland as well. Halfway through, nuts became more prominent with nuts/leather/coffee on the finish."

"Once lit, had a spicy tobacco flavor with a characteristic "twang" of a Honduran Maduro, even though it isn't a maduro. Some sweetness in the spicy tobacco flavor. There was some bite to this cigar that, at times could be classified as harsh. Nothing that some additional aging couldn't resolve. About 1/3 from the end, there was some Cuban twang in the cigar. It didn't last long, but it was there."

"My thoughts on this is that it is a very good, quality smoke. It put out a lot of smoke with no draw problems at all. Burn on this was very good. No need for touchups. A flavorful and med bodied smoke. I would without a doubt buy some of these."

In summary, the Vibe Corojo Torpedo really wanted to be a special cigar.  The stem issues killed things for a couple of our reviewers.  The good news is that most enjoyed the cigars.  If your a cigar manufacturer and the biggest issues with your new cigars are stems and ageing, your probably pretty happy, as both can be easily fixed.  We recommend the Vibe Corojo, and rest confident that most of our readers are going to enjoy this cigar.  At $5.50 a cigar, this smoke is going to provide quite the bang for the buck.
