The Grand Cru Maduro Robusto looks like a premium stick. The decorative band near the head is highlighted by a red, gold, and black color scheme. It features the Punch label and logo. The cigar itself has a dark and oily wrapper. There are not too many veins that are visible, and it appears to have superb construction. I can tell the cigar is well-packed with tobacco due to its firmness and lack of soft spots. Before lighting, I sense a mild tobacco taste and a sweet aroma.
After striking the Grand Cru No. 2 Maduro with my lighter, the cigar exhibits an excellent burn. The cigar does seem as if it wants to waver at times, but manages to correct itself. The draw is good and there's plenty of thick smoke produced. The ash is solid and light gray in color. We are good to go in this department.
When it comes to the Grand Cru Maduro's flavor, I'd call it well-rounded. The cigar is pretty smooth from start to finish, but it packs a tiny punch to awaken the senses. The first third begins with some coffee and sweetness. This continues into the second third and is joined by rich chocolate and wood. The final third finishes things off with mild spice to end on a stronger note.
I was impressed by the Punch Grand Cru Maduro, and I really find it hard to complain about the cigar. It looked good, burned well, and offered up a nice variety of flavors. I’d recommend the Grand Cru Maduro to fans of the Punch brand looking for something a little milder than usual. Beginners with the desire to try a Punch cigar can give this one a go as well, as it shouldn't be too strong. A single sells for around $10, and you can find the No. 2 in boxes of 20. Pick one up and try it with a cup of coffee in the morning to start your day off right.
The Punch Grand Cru No. 2 Maduro earns a rating of 3.75 out of four stars.
