Today we will stray from cigar reviews and delve into some interesting new releases for you to contemplate purchasing. Let's take a look at some new cigars from Quesada, Davidoff, Second Growth, and La Palina.
Quesada Tributo
Back in April, we mentioned that Quesada was releasing a new line, the Tributo. As an update, this line is finally in stores and ready for you to try. The Tributo, or “Tribute” in English, is a cigar that has a very special meaning to the Quesada family. The Quesada family is one that has plenty of history in the tobacco business, and this new line is the collaborative effort of the founder, Manuel Quesada, and the fifth generation of the Quesadas. This fifth generation team is composed of Manuel's daughters, nieces, and nephews.
As for the special meaning behind the cigar, its creation is a tribute to four family members who have passed. Each of the four offerings in the line is named after one of the family members: the 4 1/2x 40 Alvarito, the 5 x 50 Julio, the 6 x 52 Alvaro, and the 6 1/2x 60 Manolin. The Tributo is handmade at the Matasa factory in Santiago, Dominican Republic, and is just the second line released that holds the Quesada label.
Each Tributo features a filler blend of Ligero tobaccos from the Dominican Republic and Nicaragua. The binder is Nicaraguan Ligero as well, and it is completed by a special hybrid Ecuadorian wrapper. The Alvarito size comes in boxes of 50, while the other three sizes are offered in boxes of 24. Singles retail from around $5 to $8 each, depending on the size you select. These should be worth a try. When you consider the meaning behind the line's release and what it represents, you can bet the Quesada's put a lot of heart into its production.
