chewgars1 Hello again to everyone, and welcome to the first June edition of 2010's new cigar releases. Today we have somewhat of a mixed menu. To start things off we will take a look at a new line from E.P. Carrillo, as well as a tribal themed selection from Gran Habano. Finishing things off will be a look at an interesting concept aimed at pet lovers and their furry friends: Chewgars.

E.P. Carrillo Short Run

E.P. Carrillo has a new cigar line available to the public. Named the “Short Run”, this line is a collaborative effort between Enesto Perez-Carrillo himself and two of his children, Lissette and Ernie. The theory behind the name chosen for the cigar is that Perez-Carrillo will only release the cigar in limited batches, on a short run basis. One Short Run line is scheduled to debut each year, with this particular one being the first of its kind from the brand.

Each Short Run will be a unique blend. By releasing it in limited quantities and using special ingredients, E.P. Carrillo hopes to build some brand recognition and create a strong demand for their product. The inaugural Short Run has a filler blend of tobaccos from the Dominican Republic and Nicaragua. Its binder is Nicaraguan as well, and it is finished off with an Ecuadorian Sumatra wrapper. The Short Run is said to be packed with flavor, and falls into the medium to full-bodied category.

The Short Run comes in three different sizes: the 4 7/8x 50 Populares, the 5 7/8x52 Delirios, and the 6 1/4x 60 Dominantes. The cigars come in boxes of 24. Expect to pay around $6 to $8 for each, depending on which vitola you choose. If you do plan on picking up a Short Run, do so quickly as only 4,500 boxes will be produced in total. At least one thing can be said about the E.P. Carrillo brand, and that is that they know how to pick appropriate names. With such a limited quantity produced, you can definitely count on the new line being a very “short run.”

Should trying a Short Run make you a fan of the E.P. Carrillo brand, there is some good news, as they are expected to release another line of cigars sometime this fall. The fall release, which was leaked by Perez-Carrillo himself, is supposed to be the flagship of the brand, and will be appropriately named the “E.P. Carrillo.” Pricing for the E.P. Carrillo line should be around the same as the Short Run, but expect to see more sizes offered than just three.
