Civil Cigar Lounge to Open in DC January 14

Our elected officials and other cigar lovers in the Washington, DC area will have a ritzy new place to smoke, or just hang out, next week, when the Civil Cigar Lounge makes its debut.

The lounge is the project of John Anderson and Matt Krimm, owners of the city’s oldest full service tobacco shop, W. Curtis Draper, and has a capacity of 110, with an area of 5,000 square feet. Inside will be a long bar with 22 stools, burgundy leather chairs, plush banquettes and 125 personalized cedar cigar lockers that can be leased. There’s also a separate events space with glass-encased private room.

The retail store already open on the premises offers a selection of cigars from Nicaragua, Honduras and the Dominican Republic. The Civil Cigar Lounge is conveniently located next door to critically acclaimed restaurant Range, and celebrity chef Bryan Voltaggio designed the menu of small plates to go with the selection of wines and liquor.

Publicist Sue-Jean Chun has dubbed the Civil Cigar Lounge “an amusement park for adults,” and as of January 14, you can check it out on the second floor of the Chevy Chase Pavilion at 5335 Wisconsin Ave., 202-364-0800, www.civillounge.com

DAD’s Smoke Shop is the Place to Go in Maine

If you happen to be close to the town of Biddeford, Maine, you’ll want to check out DAD’s Smoke Shop on Alfred Street, because this friendly establishment has everything you need to enjoy a fine cigar.

When Dan and Bonnie Ducharme opened DAD’s five years ago, they wanted to provide a comfortable place with a social atmosphere, and that’s just what you’ll find here. The store offers a wide selection of cigars, pipes, pipe tobacco and cigarettes, plus gifts, supplies and accessories.

DAD’s also has two smoking lounges, including a larger one located in the front of the store for socializing and a smaller, quieter one in the back.

Dan Ducharme names the chance to socialize with fellow cigar smokers as one reason for opening the store. “There is sort of camaraderie with cigar smokers. In the lounge you can get people from college students, doctors, laborers, business people or retired people, all smoking together. Cigars are the common connection that brings them together. I have seen so many great friendships start in the lounge.”

Smoked one of my Cigar Marine yesterday and enjoyed it immensely. I blame you.
