Bluffton, SC Considers Allowing Cigar Bars

When the news about tobacco legislation always seems to involve more restrictions, it’s refreshing to hear that one community is considering making it easier for cigar smokers to find a friendly place to light up.

This week, the Bluffton, SC, Town Council approved a provision allowing tobacco shops to operate “cigar bars” where customers can smoke while consuming beer and wine. The proposal was made at the request of the owner of Peaceful Henry’s Cigars and Tobacco, who wants to expand his business beyond just tobacco sales.

The proposed amendment contains several restrictions, such as the cigar bar must have a walk-in humidor, cannot sell food or hard liquor, must earn at least 30% of its annual gross revenue from the sale of tobacco-related products other than cigarettes and cannot give discounts on alcohol. Plus, no cigarette smoking on the premises, just cigars.

The Bluffton Town Council will be voting on the amendment July 16. Good luck, guys!

Crowned Heads Debuts 6 Shooter Sampler

Next month, Crowned Heads will be adding a third cigar brand to the two already available, and smokers can try all of them with their new sampler. The 6 Shooter Sampler will have two each of three cigars and sell for $49.

Included in the sampler are the Four Kicks Sublime, Headley Grange Estupendos and J,D. Howard Reserve HR 46. Crowned Heads will introduce the sampler and the J.D. Howard Reserve brand at the International Premium Cigar Pipe & Retailers trade show in Las Vegas next month. The Nashville-based company has its cigars rolled in the Dominican Republic at Tabacalera La Alianza S.A.
