Cigar Review staff noticed an article on the
Colorado Springs Gazette Website that implies that three bar owners (regular
drinking establishment bars) tried to claim they should be exempt from the no
smoking law as if they were cigar bars.
They lost the case and were fined a few hundred dollars each. As we started
reading the article our first inclination was to take the side of the bar
owners. Then we got to the part that said the patrons were smoking cigarettes.
Reading further the article says the bar owners defense was that their
cigarettes sales - "totaling more than 5 percent of his overall sales - and
should have been exempted from Colorado's Clean Air Act under the 'cigar bar'
exemption." WHAT!?! Sorry guys. You got what you deserved. You tried to
pull a scam and worse yet, fueled the uneducated, narrow-minded, general
public's view that cigars and cigarettes should all be lumped together as the
same thing.
Watch for a future article here about the huge differences between cigars and
cigarettes.
In the meantime, check out the story and tell us what you think in our
