The results from our "Best of 2002" poll at Top25Cigar. See which cigars were voted the best of 2002.

After skipping a year, and bowing to popular demand,  the "Best Of" competition at Top25Cigar returns.

With over 1500 people voting, below are the final results.  Thanks to everyone that nominated and voted in the poll.

- Top25Cigar Editors

- Overall Best Manufacturer

 Padron Arturo Fuente C.A.O. International

  -  We're not sure the winner was a big surprise, as Padron garnered 25% of all votes.  It was fantastic to see C.A.O. International place third in this category, beating out some big names like Habanos S.A., Graycliff, and Ashton.

- Best Line of Cigars

Padron 1964 Anniversary Series C.A.O. Brazilia Ashton Virgin Sun Grown

C.A.O. weighs in again with the heavyweights.  No Monster surprises here, other than the Cuban brands not doing better.

- "Rookie Of The Year" Best New Line Of Cigars

Padron 1926 La Luna Natural Fuerte C.A.O. Criollo

  -  Looks like the best new cigars are coming out of Nicaragua and Honduras.  These three beat out the likes of Habanos S.A. Limited Edition.

- Best Non-Cuban Cigar

Padron 1964 Anniversary Exclusivo Maduro Opus X Robusto C.A.O. Brazilia Samba

  -  Two expected heavyweights, and then there is C.A.O. again...barely nudging out the Ashton VSG Corona Gorda for third.  So far we have a 4 event sweep by Padron.

- Best Cuban Cigar

Montecristo No. 2 Cohiba Robusto Partagas Serie D No. 4

  -  A bit of a surprise the Monte No. 2 won this.  With rumors that the quality had fallen off, the Monte may have hung on by sentimental value.  "No opinion" had the second most votes.  Suppose those votes were from all the Americans who know they can't smoke Cubans!  (-;

- Best Small Cigar Brand

 Graycliff La Luna Bucanero

  -  The first tie!  Graycliff and La Luna came in even.  Good to see newcomer Bucanero in third...barely edging out the folks at La Perla Habana and La Tradicion Cubana.

- Most Disappointing Release

Partagas Black Macanudo Gold Cohiba (Habana) Ltd. Edition Piramide

  -  The Cuban Cohiba LE Piramide really surprised us, they must have really let down their fans with this cigar.  Partagas Black was a surprise as well.

- Most Under-Rated Line of Cigars

Oliva "O" El Rey Del Mundo (Hon) Bucanero

  -  There's Bucanero sneaking in again.  Hard to argue with #1, #2 or #3.

- Most Over-Hyped Cigar Line

Opus X Cohiba XV Macanudo Gold

  -  Can you say landslide?  Opus owned this group with over 4 times the votes of its nearest competitor.  Marketing dollars at work!

- Best Nicaraguan Brand

 Padron C.A.O. Mayorga

  -  The barons of Nicaragua took this one.  Good to see Mayorga pulling in to the top three.  Padron had more votes than all others combined.

- Best Dominican Brand

Arturo Fuente La Gloria Cubana Ashton

  -  La Gloria Cubana was thrown in this group as most of their cigars are made in the D.R..  No big surprises here.

- Best Honduran Brand

La Luna El Rey Del Mundo Camacho

This was very tight, as top three brands were only percentage points apart from each other.  Congrats to all three.

- Best Cuban Brand

Cohiba Montecristo Partagas

  -  Another close race, with the three famous brands all being neck and neck.  Another category where "no opinion" was a very popular answer.

- Best United States Brand

La Tradicion Cubana Moore & Bode Lars Tetens

No Opinion actually would have won this category.  For those of you that had sampled cigars in this question, La Tradicion Cubana was the clear winner.

- Best Value or "Bang For The Buck"

Padron La Luna La Gloria Cubana

You have to be proud when you can win both this category and the quality category like the Padron's did.  La Luna and La Gloria Cubana were neck and neck.

- Best Cigar Accessory

Xikar XI Cutter Listerine Zino Double Guillotine Cutter

We threw in Listerine as a joke, voters took it seriously!  Must attest to the many bad cigars still on the market.

- Best On-Line Retailer

JR Cigar Smokers Depot

The big fish was not going to be beat.  That's not 100% correct, as the most votes were for "To good to let out, Top Secret".  I guess cigar smokers are fiercely protective of their sources!

- Best Best Robusto Shaped Cigar

Padron 1964 Anniversary Exclusivo Maduro Partagas Serie D No. 4 (Habana) Cohiba Robusto

A runaway followed by a very tight race for second and third.

- Best Toro Shaped Cigar

Padron 1964 Anniversary Imperial (Maduro) C.A.O. eXtreme Toro El Rey Del Mundo
Robusto Larga

  Three worthy winners.

- Best Churchill Shaped Cigar

Romeo y Julieta Churchill (Habana) Cohiba Esplendido Opus X
Reserve d'Chateau

  Wow, talk about three heavyweights!

- Best Torpedo Shaped Cigar

Montecristo No. 2 (Habana) Padron 1964 Anniversary Torpedo (Maduro) C.A.O. Brazilia Samba

These three along with the Graycliff Pirate were heads and shoulders above the rest.

- Best Corona Shaped Cigar

Ashton VSG
Corona Gorda
Punch Punch (Habana) Cohiba Siglo III

  -  Interesting to see a Dominican leading a couple of Cubans along.

- Best Double Corona Shaped Cigar

Partagas Lusitanias
Padron 1964 Anniversary Diplomatico (Maduro) Ashton VSG Sorcerer

Our second tie, and a close race for third as well, with the Ashton VSG Sorcerer barely beating out the Cuban Hoyo de Monterrey Double Corona.

- Best Belicoso or Shaped Cigar

Arturo Fuente Hemingway Short Story Ashton VSG Enchantment Joya de Nicaragua Antano 1970 Belicoso

  -  Good to see that the cigar that started the shaped trend win this hands down.  There was a fierce battle for third, with the Joya barely edging out the La Aurora Preferido 1903 No. 1.

- Best Pyramid Shaped Cigar

Padron 1964 Anniversary Pyramide (Maduro) Opus X Perfecxion No. 2 Partagas Ltd. Edition Pyramide (Habana)

  -  Just give third place a few more years of ageing and lets see what happens!  Where the heck are all of you getting a hold of your Padron Anniversary Pyramids?  Wish we had that chance.

- Best Lonsdale Shaped Cigar

Ashton VSG Illusion C.A.O. eXtreme
Ltd. Edition Lancero
Padron 1964 Anniversary Superior

Three solid smokes from major forces.  C.A.O. continues to show well.

- Best Petit Corona Shaped Cigar

Bolivar Petit Corona (Habana) Montecristo No. 4 (Habana) Padron 1964 Anniversary Principe (Maduro)

  -  All delicious, and all deserving.
