Two Fuente Warehouses Destroyed by Fire in Dominican Republic

Last week, a fire destroyed two tobacco warehouses owned by Tabacalera A. Fuente y Cia. The fire occurred in Villa Gonzalez, Dominican Republic, which is just outside of the nation’s capital of Santiago. Besides the two totaled warehouses, other storage facilities in the area may have been affected by smoke damage as well.
Luckily, there was no human loss in the fire, as no injuries or deaths were reported. On the other hand, when it comes to Fuente’s prized tobacco, the damage was considerable. Fuente representatives did not disclose any exact details on the quantity or monetary value of tobacco that was lost, but they did give some insight as to the type of tobacco that perished. Wrapper tobacco was spared for the most part. Bales of special filler tobacco purchased over 20 years ago that was set aside for unique projects was ruined, however.
