Davidoff Opens Flagship Store at Zurich Airport

December 1st marked the grand opening of Davidoff’s one-of-a-kind flagship store at Zurich Airport’s Airside Center. The store’s overall concept is new, and its launch coincides with the company’s 100th anniversary of its first Davidoff store that opened in Geneva.

Per the company’s website, Hans-Kristian Hoejsgaard, president and CEO of the Oettinger Davidoff Group, had this to say about the new store: “We are crowning the celebration of the 100th anniversary of the first Davidoff store opened in Geneva with the introduction of a 21st century retail concept. Renaming our Retail Brand "Davidoff of Geneva – since 1911" also signals the return to our proud roots as THE multibrand tobacco specialist. By implementing this new retail store concept in one of the most important duty free destinations we also underscore the great strategic importance of the duty free & travel retail channel for the Oettinger Davidoff Group.”

Just about half of the store’s 646 square feet is consumed by a large walk-in humidor that is concealed by glass. The store’s interior is laced with warm colors to evoke a Caribbean feeling reminiscent of the Dominican Republic, which is where Davidoff cigars originate. Davidoff designed the new concept to give travelers a much-needed feeling of tranquility amongst the hustle and bustle of the airport, and the company plans to expand the concept to other duty-free destinations in the future.

Beyond the new store’s tranquil setting and ample humidor lies another ingredient that gives it a modern feel – an iPad in-store app. The iPad is a perfect device to define innovation, and Davidoff’s inclusion of the tablet in its Zurich Airport store is a solid addition. Customers can use the app when they enter the store to dig deeper into their favorite cigars by answering a handful of questions. The app offers plenty of information about Davidoff’s offerings, and information can be shared via email or through social networking sites like Facebook and Twitter.
