Planning ahead: Big Smoke 2011

cignews2.14

February is a huge month for cigar festivals. Yes, it's probably too late to go ahead and plan on attending one, but the thought is nice. You have the ProCigar Festival in the Dominican Republic. There's also the Humo Jaguar Festival in Honduras, which is going on right now. Last, but not least, you have the Festival del Habano in Havana, Cuba. All three festivals have itineraries that sound like a ton of tobacco fun, but each takes place overseas. Not only does that involve travel restrictions in some cases, but it can also get expensive.

How about an event in the the good ole U.S.A.? The Big Smoke is just that. Big Smoke is an annual event sponsored by Cigar Aficionado, and its fifteenth edition took place last November at the Venetian Resort in Las Vegas. Described as “a weekend for cigar lovers,” Big Smoke 2010 offered a combination of things that would touch a cigar fan's heart: cigars, premium liquor, beer, cigars, food, and more cigars. The event also had plenty of other appealing items on display, such as golf equipment, luxury cars, and motorcycles.

While the samples and displays offered entertainment in the evenings, Big Smoke 2010's daytime hours were filled with educational seminars. Several experts from within the cigar industry were on hand to present and discuss highly rated cigars, as well as other topics such as counterfeits, tobacco growing regions, brand development, and how to roll your own cigar.

Big Smoke 2010 seemed like the perfect event for a true cigar lover. Although there are no official dates for Big Smoke 2011 as of yet, you should definitely keep your eyes open in the coming months for their announcement. Big Smoke is known to sellout rather quickly, so you do not want to be left on the outside looking in if you hope to attend. Keep coming back to us for more news on Big Smoke 2011 as it becomes available.
