Dr. J Has a Drink and a Smoke in Vegas

We have a celebrity cigar sighting this week, as the legendary NBA player Julius “Dr. J” Erving was spotted at Casa Fuente in the Forum Shops at Caesar’s Palace on the Las Vegas Strip. Onlookers report the doctor was sipping from a glass of Taylor’s 30-year-old Tawny Port while puffing on an Ashton #60 cigar. What becomes a legend most?

Algodon Mansion in Buenos Aires Opens Veuve Clicquot Lounge

There’s a new place in Argentina to smoke a cigar in the lap of luxury since one posh hotel has unveiled a new rooftop open-air lounge. The Algodon Mansion, in partnership with Davidoff Cigars, has added the Veuve Clicquot Lounge to its long list of amenities.

If that’s not reason enough to stay at the Relais & Chateaux property, the hotel also offers a wine cellar, rooftop pool, sauna, spa and 24-hour butler service. The tab for all this luxury? $480 to $980 per night, plus tax. For more info, visit Good luck with putting a visit to the Algodon Mansion on your expense account.

New Global Marketing Goes Worldwide

Who would have expected a small company that was launched from the trunk of a car would grow until it was selling cigars all over the world? That’s just what happened with New Global Marketing.

Global CEO Greg Fox explained how his company cashed in on the cigar boom. “We actually started as five companies - (selling) cigars, wine glasses, pearls, soaps and groceries - in 1997 in Kingston, N.Y. We did door-to-door cigar sales.

“The cigar boom happened just as Internet sales started to become popular. That's what (led to success).”

Now the company is selling its premium cigars at, and business is brisk. New Global Marketing buys its cigars from the Dominican Republic, Honduras and Nicaragua, and takes great care to keep them fresh.

“The cigars are kept in a 6,700-square-foot humidor that is kept at 70 degrees Fahrenheit. It is built of moisture-resistant greenboard sheetrock, like you’d use in a bathroom for humidity,” Fox stated.

“In this environment, the cigars last forever. They don’t have a shelf life. They age like wine. The older they are, the better. Most people like aged cigars. The different types of tobacco marry each other, wrapper binder and filler. When those elements stay together longer, they taste better.”

One of the most popular items available at is the Mr. Big Sampler, which includes two each of these cigars: Rocky Patel Edge Battalion Maduro, Camacho Coylar Titan, Joya de Nicaragua Antano 1970 Gran Perfecto, Sancho Panza Extra Fuerte Madrid, Medici Bottecelli and Indian Tabac Super Fuerte Toro Maduro. A $79.95 value, the Mr. Big Sampler sells for $54.95.
