Serious Cigars Offers Rolling Class

If you’ve always wanted to learn the fine art of cigar rolling, and happen to be in Houston this weekend, Serious Cigars is offering a unique opportunity. The Rolling Academy is an annual event presented by Serious Cigars and Casa Fernandez that gives students the chance to learn how to roll cigars from a Level 7 Master Roller. According to Serious Cigars owner Ron Lesseraux, “This is the equivalent of Mozart teaching you how to play the piano.”

Only three classes will be offered, each limited to 20 students. Tickets are $125 and that price includes everything you need to make cigars, plus a cocktail reception and dinner afterwards. Students will take home the ten cigars they create in a commemorative box, a certificate of completion and a personalized Chaveta (cigar knife.

The Serious Cigars Rolling Academy will take place from 5:30 pm -9 pm on Saturday, February 22, at 2901 West Loop South, Houston, TX 77027. If you’re not going to be in Houston, the event will be streamed live on the Serious Cigars site.

Light a Fire with Famous Smoke Shop This Month

There are still a few days left in February, and until the month is over, Famous Cigars has a promotional deal on Miro cigars. You can get a free Vector Heatran Triple Flame Gunmetal Torch Lighter when you buy a full box of Miro Cigars, and get free shipping on your entire order. This lighter usually sells for $35, and will make a cool accessory for lighting your Miro cigars. These hand-rolled, medium-to-full bodied cigars are made in Honduras from a blend of Nicaraguan and Honduran filler with a Nicaraguan binder and Sumatra wrapper.

Jay-Z Takes His Cigars Seriously

It’s easy to suspect that some celebs will slap their names on anything to make a buck, but there are a few who take pride in the quality of their trademark products. Jay-Z is one of those hands-on types, taking part in everything from the design of luxury suites for the New Jersey Nets to the blend of his new Comador cigars.

In an article for Bloomberg Businessweek, the rapper-turned-mogul’s partner in his latest endeavor had very positive things to say about Jay-Z’s taste and business acumen. General Cigar CEO Dan Carr said, “I mean, he’s a really smart guy. He’s a great guy. He’s visionary. He truly is an artist. It’s kind of obvious, but he’s a tastemaker. And at the same time he’s a connoisseur of stuff.”

Unlike some products that are thrown together overnight to take advantage of a celeb’s fleeting fame, the Comador line is the result of two years of talking and smoking to come up with just the right blend. When the time came to market the line, Jay-Z added his creative touch. According to Carr, “He designed the logo. The name Comador was his as well. His fingerprints are all over this stuff.”

Isn’t that a cigar aficionado’s dream come true?
