Cigar Shop Offers Bible Study

Cigar smoking is often seen as a somewhat decadent, worldly habit, so it seems a bit odd that one Ohio cigar shop offers a Bible study group. But since tobacco is a natural substance that could be considered a gift from God, why not enjoy a fine cigar while learning some scripture?

Cigar Cigars is a storefront smoke shop located in a Rocky River, Ohio, shopping plaza that in addition to a selection of tobacco products, offers twice-a-month Bible study. While the sight of a preacher and his followers puffing on big cigars as they read the scripture may seem a bit odd, those participating find it comforting.

Customer Larry Gilbert explained, “It's an opportunity to get out of the cold, have a cigar and learn some Bible.” Eric Van Scyoc of the St. Thomas Lutheran Church has been conducting the services at Cigar Cigars for the last three years and calls it  “a chance to bring the Bible out from the walls of the church.”

While ladies are welcome at the Smokin' Bible Study, as it’s called, so far none have joined in. Van Scyoc commented, “Some women have said to us, `I'm going to come by because it shouldn't be just for men. They're certainly welcome, but, so far, none of them have come by."

Rocky Patel IIXXVI Coming Next Month

Cigar maker Rocky Patel likes to commemorate his birthdays with special edition cigars and this year is no exception. The IIXXVI will be coming out on February 26 to celebrate his birthday, 2/26.

The Rocky Patel IIXXVI will be a three-size cigar line with a Mexican double binder leaf and dark broadleaf wrapper from tobacco grown in the Pennsylvania Dutch country.

The most unique thing about the Rocky Patel IIXXVI is that it will be the first cigar from the brand to include large amounts of tobacco from Patel’s personal farms in Esteli, Nicaragua.

Alec Bradley Gets “Filthy” with New Candela

What’s in a name? In the case of the new line of green cigars from Alec Bradley, one little word made a lot of difference.

The new candela was set for release under the name “Dirty Hooligan,” but after a  textmessage to Bradley owner Alan Rubin from his friend Jonathan Drew, there’s been a change of heart. It seems that Drew of Drew Estate pointed out that the “Dirty” appellation was an integral part of the marketing campaign for some products from the company. This led Rubin to change the name to “Filthy Hooligan,” despite having already printed items like boxes and T-shirts.

The newly-named “Filthy Hooligan” line will be similar to the earlier Black Market blend with a double binder of Honduran and Nicaraguan leaves surrounding filler tobaccos from Panama, Nicaragua and Honduras wrapped in a bright green Nicaraguan leaf.

The Filthy Hooligan cigar will be a limited release available in a 6 inch by 50 ring Toro size, and just 2,000 boxes of 22 units each will be made. Look for them in time for St. Patrick’s Day.
