pufffamleadThere are plenty of celebrities out there who enjoy a good stick.  This week checks out what two big stars with very big personalities had to say about some of their favorite cigars.  We've also got a nice idea for anyone looking for a cigar related Father's Day Gift for your dad....or even yourself.

Rush Limbaugh Loves Controversy – and Cigars

Things haven’t been going so well for Rush Limbaugh lately. Since his tirade against law student Sandra Fluke, the conservative radio host has seen his ratings plummet and lost over 100 advertisers. Limbaugh called Fluke a “slut” and a “prostitute” for daring to demand that the health insurance for which she and her fellow students at Georgetown University have to spend over $1,000 per year cover contraceptives. Since the comments hit the media, one radio CEO estimated that the ensuing controversy has cost him millions of dollars.

Even if Limbaugh’s ratings and advertisers fail to bounce back, he can always retire to enjoy his vast fortune—and huge cigar collection. Limbaugh was a bit late in discovering the pleasures of cigar smoking. In an interview from 1994, the host revealed, “I've only been smoking them for about a year, but I've gotten into them like I haven’t gotten into anything in a long time.” He added, “I think cigars are just a tremendous addition to the enjoyment of life.”

The usually sharp-tongued commentator sounded almost romantic as he described his feelings about enjoying a fine cigar. “First of all, it’s the flavor. The next thing is that they are a reward. I look at them as an indulgence that is special. I like the feel of them in my hand. I'm very expressive with my hands, and when I speak I enjoy having one in my hand. I love the smell of them…Cigars relax me. They help me to think.”

So what are Limbaugh’s favorite smokes? On his website, he recommended a few favorites:
“Arturo Fuente. Hard to find, but if you can get them you’ll love ‘em! Medium bodied, great smoking, perfect construction, these are hard to beat.”

“Charles the Great. The best-kept secret in premium cigars, these are made in a small factory in Santa Rosa de Copan, Honduras. Medium bodied, loaded with flavor and exceptionally well made, there isn’t a better cigar for the money anywhere!”
“Cohiba. The Dominican version of the popular Cuban brand, these are the cream of the crop – maybe the best quality cigars available in the United States. The Cohiba Black Label has an even fuller, richer taste than the original.”

Limbaugh has been accused of being less than sensitive to women, but he does take the ladies into account when it comes to one of his favorite fine cigars. “Often you just bring out a cigar, and it’s an immediate hysterical reaction, even before you light up. But when I light up a Romeo y Julieta Churchill, it seems to be the cigar that women like. They don’t object to it at all.”

Movie Star and Cohiba Fan Tom Cruise

Tom Cruise is pushing 50, but you’d never know it from seeing him in some of his recent films. Besides playing the action hero in a series of “Mission Impossible” movies, Cruise will hit the screen next month in “Rock of Ages,” the Hollywood version of the Broadway hit musical about Sunset Strip rockers and groupies in the 80s. In his flashy role as metal superstar Stacee Jaxx, Cruise belts out the Def Leppard hit “Pour Some Sugar on Me” and appears in outfits so skimpy, no other 40-something actor would dare to be seen in them. Would you believe assless chaps?

When he’s not daring to play unlikely roles on the screen, Cruise can often be found at home relaxing with a good cigar. Cruise has been a cigar lover since the 90s, and one of his biggest hits, “Jerry Maguire,” was filmed at the tony Grand Havana Room in Beverly Hills.

Like fellow actor and former California governor Arnold Schwarzenegger, Cruise has a penchant for pricey Cohiba cigars, for which he placed standing orders with London and Geneva’s top cigar merchants. During Cruise’s marriage to second wife Nicole Kidman, the starry couple gifted pal Demi Moore with a travel humidor for her own cigar collection.

Cruise has several more projects in the works, including a remake of the classic Western “The Magnificent Seven.” The 1960 original starred a group of legendary actors including Yul Brynner, Steve McQueen. Charles Bronson and James Coburn.

Cruise is also on the short list to star opposite Beyonce in another remake of “A Star is Born” and may even find time in his schedule to do “Top Gun 2.”

Over his 20+ year career, this cigar lover has always followed his instincts and done things his way. Cruise told Playboy magazine, “There comes a point when you just have to go, ‘You know what? Here’s how I've lived my life: I've never been late to set. I make films I believe in. I feel privileged to be able to do what I love.’ You just have to keep going and remember that… The other stuff? I hear it, I read it, I get it. But life is not a matter of trying to prove anything to anybody.”

:-| You need to go back and check your sources on Limbaugh. He DID NOT lose 100 advertisers NOR did he lose ratings. The people listening to Limbaugh AGREE with his comments, so why would he lose them?
