Manuel Quesada Honored with 40th Anniversary Cigar

This year marks the 40th anniversary of Quesada Cigars, and the daughters of founder Manuel “Manolo” Quesada are honoring their dad with a new cigar called the Quesada 40th. The cigar is crafted from Dominican and Nicaraguan tobacco with a Mexican San Andres wrapper at the Quesada factory in the Dominican Republic. The core line of Quesada 40Th will come in three sizes: Robusto 5 inch x 52 ring, Toro 6 inch x 54 ring, and Toro Real 6 inch x 65. They will sell for $8.95 to $9.95.

Plus, there will also be a pair of limited edition sizes. The first is the box-pressed Toro Press that measures 6 x 49 and sells for $10.95. The second is the Salomon Press, a double-tapered figurado that is pressed into the shape of the Dominican Republic’s Cibao valley and also sells for $10.95.

The Quesada 40th line was introduced at last month’s Pro Cigar Festival and will go on sale in the spring.

When You’re in Southeast Texas, Mike’s Cigar Room is the Place

If you’re looking for a hospitable place to buy and smoke cigars in the Houston area, check out Mike’s Cigar Room in Conroe. Longtime cigar lovers Mike and Nancy McCoy opened the shop four and a half years ago and clearly love what they do. As store manager Brad Frazier put it, “We don’t separate ourselves from our customers.  All of our regulars are like our friends. We’re all involved in each other’s lives. We sit and smoke and talk with the customers. We don’t stay behind the counter.”

Everyone is welcome at Mike’s from newbies to aficionados, and the store sees up to 250 customers per week. Regulars attracted to the relaxed atmosphere and “bring your own beer” policy enjoy relaxing with a smoke in one of the shop’s dozen chairs while watching television.

Mike’s Cigar Room offers a wide selection of more than 1,100 cigars as well as pipes and accessories like lighters, cutters and humidors. Once a month, the shop hosts special cigar events featuring a manufacturer that provides free accessories and discounts on box purchases. According to Frazier, “It’s a fun business.”
