Fifty Years of No Cuban Cigars
The embargo on Cuban cigars has been going on so long that many young cigar smokers have never enjoyed one, but it hasn’t always been that way. Last weekend marked the 50th anniversary of the Cuban Missile Crisis, which brought this nation dangerously close to World War III.
The situation with Cuba led President John F. Kennedy to institute the embargo on Cuban goods, which meant the end to Cuban cigars in the U.S.—at least, legal ones.

Cigars for Civil War Buffs
If you’re into the Civil War and also love cigars, the Castro brothers have some smokes for you!

Brothers David and Steve Castro grew up in Frederick, Maryland, an area heavy with memories of the Civil War, so what could come more naturally to them than starting a line of cigars that appeal to fans of the legendary conflict?
As David Castro told the press, “We have a lot of Civil War buffs. Being in a Civil War area close to the Antietam and the Monocacy, and being that the roots of Frederick derived from Fredericktowne, we came up with the idea to reflect the historic area.”
The Castro Brothers call their cigars Antietam, Monocacy, and Fredericktowne. All are hand-rolled and available in Churchill, Robusto Toro, and Pyramid sizes.
All we do is premium, hand-rolled cigars,” David said. “We don’t just make a cigar to have our name on it. We create a masterpiece to offer value and superior quality.”
All Castro Brothers cigars are available at nine locations of their chain, including the newest store located at 529 W. South St. in Frederick, MD.
