Maybe you’ve spent the last few months happily enjoying your favorite smokes in your man cave or other parts of the house, but now the holidays are just around the corner. That means you’ll be hosting events like Thanksgiving dinner, Christmas with the relatives and/or a New Year’s Eve bash. There will be a ton of guests coming into your home, and some of them are likely to be non-smokers who don’t enjoy the scent of stale smoke.

Even if you’re fine with having parts of your home smell like a cigar lounge the rest of the year, you may want to clean up the place before the friends and relations descend in a couple of weeks. A bit of cleaning could spare you that lecture from mom about how smoking is bad for your health or having your cousin’s allergies kick up again.

While the smell of a burning cigar may be deliciously fragrant, no one really enjoys the stale odor that can set in later. Cigar stores and lounges use air purifiers to keep their establishments smelling fresh, and you can, too. Here are a few tips and tricks for ridding your home of smoky smells without actually calling in a hazmat team.

Air purifiers

All air purifiers work by filtering impurities out of the air, and there are models available at various price points. You may want to choose a larger model for the entire home or several smaller versions for separate rooms.

The Whirlpool Whispure 510 Air Purifier sells for about $300 from Amazon, eBay, Sears or Walmart. This air purifier boasts a true HEPA Filter that captures 99.97% of particles 0.3 microns or larger over an area of up to 500 sq. ft. The Whispure is great for allergy sufferers, since it eliminates airborne allergens including dust, pet dander, smoke, mold spores, pollen, and other fibers. $300 may sound a bit pricey, but you can use it all year long to clean up the air in your home.

A less expensive option is the Whispure Tower Air Purifier, available at Amazon for $179.99. This one also filters out odors but is good for only 200 sq. ft.

Another popular model is the Ionic Zephyr UV-C Air Purifier, which claims to remove dust, pollen, pet dander and smoke from the air via its fan and electronic filter. One air purifier sells for $109.95, two for $179.95 or four for $311.95 here:

For serious air cleaning over a large area, check out the Minus A2 Ultra Quiet HEPA Air Purifier line from Rabbit Air. Models covering 700 - 815 sq. ft. sell for $459.95 - $554.95 at Rabbit Air.
