Patel Party Benefits Cigar Rights of America

At a time when lovers of premium cigars feel under siege by threats of onerous regulation from the FDA, Cigar Rights of America is on your side, and Patel is helping with a benefit in New York City. The proceeds from this weekend’s event will go to helping this organization fight for the rights of smokers.

A Taste of the Good Life happens on September 13 at the smoker-friendly Studio Square in Long Island City. A $225 ticket lets guests dine from the carving stations of S Prime Steakhouse, as well as raw bars and an array of sides. The bar is amply stocked with Radeberger beer, Patron tequila, Russian Standard vodka and Jim Beam bourbon.

As if the dinner and drinks weren’t tempting enough, the ticket price includes 16 Rocky Patel cigars and a cigar case.

Le Royal Monceau in Paris Opens Private Cigar Lounge

If you’re a cigar lover who’s headed for gay Paree and has an unlimited expense account, here’s a place you could make you home away from home. Le Royal Monceau, Raffles Paris is set to open a posh new private cigar lounge that offers all the things a well-heeled cigar smoker loves most.

Le Club Viñales will be an upscale hideaway where one may enjoy the finest of cigars and libations among cushy leather chairs and quality reading matter, or catch the Parisian sunshine from the private terrace.

There’s no danger of having your retreat invaded by noisy tourists, because membership will be restricted to a chosen few who will enjoy VIP perks like a locked personal humidor for storing your cigar collection. The fortunate members will also enjoy a concierge service and invitations to tastings hosted by the makers of premium wine and spirits such as Hennessy, Louis XIII, Dom Perignon and Glenfiddich.

More details will be available when Le Club Viñales has its grand opening this fall.

Leaf Cigar Bar & Lounge Hosts Poker Night

OK, most of us aren’t going to be swilling Dom at a fancy lounge in Paris, so how about something a bit more down-home? One Pennsylvania smoke shop is hoping to kick up business with a weekly Poker Night.

Jeff Brown, CEO of the Leaf Cigar Bar & Lounge in Forks Township, PA, was looking for a way to get more customers into his establishment while dispelling g the notion that the Leaf is a “high-end, ultra-expensive" restaurant.” As Brown put it, “We want to be approachable.”

So what could be friendlier than a night devoted to the game of poker? Now Tuesday is Poker Night at the Leaf, complete with drinks, cards and cigars. There’s a lot to like about Poker Night at the Leaf, including 10 craft beers, outside seating for 30, and a comfy lounge. There’s more to the Leaf than cigars and poker, since there’s also “Wine Down Wednesdays” where patrons can purchase any bottle of wine for half price with an entrée.
