The last of Aprils cigars bring us to the new Leon Jimenes Maduro line, more specifically in this case, the Robusto. The last of Aprils cigars bring us to the new Leon Jimenes Maduro line, more specifically in this case, the Robusto. These cigars we're kindly donated by Arlene at Uptown cigars, or as she is well known in Club Stogie "girl_zero". We say thanks to the folks at Uptown, and be sure to check out the link to the right for these cigars and plenty others. We liked the fact that we finished April with another attractive cigar. The Leon Jimenes maduro is not as dark as most maduro wrapped cigars, but matched up with the royalty look of the red Leon Jimenes band, this smoke gives off some classy looks. We'll give it a thumbs up in the looks department. Moving on to construction, some reviewers ran into problems, while other marveled at the wonderful deep gray ash. Issues seemed to surround the wrapper and the cap. We had quite a few comments about the cap coming off soon after smoking, leaving you with a long piece of wrapper tobacco hanging from your lip. Not suggested if trying to impress the opposite sex. The draw was above average, with comments ranging from "perfect" to "no noticeable flaws". We had some varying opinions on the taste characteristics of this well known brand. Most people thought it above average, leaving comments like: "The taste struck me as mild to medium bodied with little or no power. The robustos Dominican heritage is evident by absence of spiciness." "As with aroma the flavor is unplaceable. I would call it mild-flavored and medium-bodied at this point. The cigar is not particularly remarkable-it just tastes like a cigar." Seemingly this maduro may be a good try for those just venturing into the world of the darker banded cigars. The Leon Jimenes Maduro Robusto brought nobody to their knees with flavor, but at the same time only upset folks with occasional cases of "aftertastus hanginonus". You may want to line up this cigar in your "breakfast cigar" humidor. It's a smoke that could start your day on the right note. Nothing awe inspiring was found in the Leon Jimenes Maduro Robusto. We harbored high expectations for what our reviewers would see, but started to get concerned as the reviews rolled in sheepishly. Here we have a classic example of a cigar that plays it down the middle. Vital Statistics: Shape = Perfecto Length=4 1/2" RG =54 Wrapper = Connecticut Filler = D.R., Nicaragua Binder = D.R. Estimated Cost = $5.00
