AVO 86th Anniversary La Trompeta

Avo Uvezian of AVO cigars is celebrating his 86th birthday with the release of La Trompeta, a limited edition anniversary cigar for 2012. The 86th Anniversary La Trompeta is the eleventh annual release of its kind from the brand. The practice of releasing a special cigar each year began with Uvezian’s 75th birthday, and the company decided to continue that tradition all the way through 2012.

Made with the help of legendary tobacco master Hendrik Kellner, La Trompeta is a medium to full-bodied cigar that features an interior of Ligero and Peruvian Seco tobaccos. A select Ecuadorian Special Sun Grown wrapper dubbed “Seleccion 702” completes the composition. Each cigar carries a 6.5 x 54 Torpedo shape. Terms used to describe the 86th Anniversary La Trompeta include spicy, balanced, and complex.

Since the AVO 86th Anniversary La Trompeta is a limited edition released for a special occasion, it comes as no surprise that the cigar has exquisite packaging. Each cigar has three small circular cigar leaf cutouts on the wrapper that resemble trumpet keys, a touch implemented in honor of the jazz trumpet and Uvezian’s career as a musician. Each box of ten cigars features a depiction of Uvezian as a cigar aficionado in a black silhouette with a larger display of him playing the trumpet in the background in a gold foil finish.

La Trompeta was released to select merchants on March 28. Its production has been capped at 100,000 cigars worldwide, with 50,000 of those slated for distribution in the United States. Each cigar has a suggested retail price of $15.50.

La Palina El Diario KB

If you are on the prowl for a smaller cigar that can satisfy when you are in a time crunch, you may want to give the La Palina El Diario KB (Kill Bill) a shot. This new release is a Petit Corona that measures just 4.25 x 40 and adds to the El Diario line’s pre-existing lineup of five sizes.

While the El Diario KB may be small, the press release notes that it has the heart of a Churchill and is full-bodied in strength. It has a Nicaraguan Corojo ’99 and Criollo ’98 filler, a double binder of Honduran Criollo ’98 tobacco, and a Honduran Corojo ’99 Rosado wrapper. Bill Paley says he chose the Petit Corona size because it is ideal for the daily drive home from work, unlike many of the bigger cigars that seem to be so popular nowadays.

The La Palina El Diario KB has a suggested retail price of $8.75 per single. You can also look for it in packs of four at a suggested retail price of $35.
