newrelease1.11 We haven't discussed new releases in a while, so now seems like the perfect time to do so. We will begin by revealing a new pricing plan from La Flor Dominicana, which will be followed by some new and upcoming product releases from J.C. Newman, Habanos S.A., and Studio Tobac.

La Flor Dominicana prices rise

laflorpic1

This is not news regarding a new cigar release from La Flor Dominicana, but it does reveal a shift in the way the company's cigars will be offered, so take note. For the first time since 2007, La Flor Dominicana has raised its cigars' prices. The price hike of 2.5 percent officially went into effect on January 1st of this year.

Of course, 2.5 percent may not seem like much, but in this economy and times of higher cigar taxes, every penny counts. Will the new pricing detract cigar fans from buying from the brand? Considering the size of the increase, probably not. If you are a fan of La Flor Dominicanas, however, at least now there won't be an element of surprise should you have to pay a bit more out of pocket next time you decide to pick some up.

J.C. Newman Diamond Crown Julius Caeser

There is no shortage of tribute cigars on the market, and that number has grown again with the release of the Diamond Crown Julius Caeser by J.C. Newman Cigars. This recent release took three years to develop, and is a tribute to the brand's founder. The grandsons of the late J.C. Newman himself created the cigar to not only celebrate the 115th anniversary of the company, but also to celebrate what would have been his 135th birthday. It is the third Diamond Crown line released by the brand.

As for the cigar line's moniker, it's not a misprint. J.C. Newman spelled his name Caeser, not Caesar, so his grandsons, Eric and Bobby, decided to run with it in the naming of the cigar. The cigars finally went on sale in December 2010 after they were unveiled last year at the IPCPR show in New Orleans. They originally were available only at 50-plus Diamond Crown Cigar Lounges across the United States, but they can now be purchased via certain online retailers.

Each Julius Caeser cigar combines a blend of filler tobaccos from Central America that were aged five years with an Ecuadorian Havana Seed wrapper. To show that it is indeed a tribute line, each cigar features a decorative band with a likeness of J.C. Newman . The cigars are made in small batches in the Dominican Republic by Tabacalera A. Fuente y Cia, and are said to have bold flavor.
