La Sirena Merlion

La Sirena and La Aurora have collaborated on a new cigar set to hit store shelves next month. The cigar goes by the name of Merlion, which refers to a mythical half mermaid and half lion creature. If you are wondering about the significance of such a name, it is rather simple. La Sirena is Spanish for mermaid, so that takes care of the first half. The lion half comes from La Aurora, which uses a lion as its logo or mascot of choice.
Brand manager Arielle Ditkowich commented on the Merlion in the official press release: “We are very excited to be working with Guillermo and La Aurora, they have blended us a beautiful medium bodied cigar that is extremely complex and offers a nice contrast to our existing line.”
Beyond its snazzy name, the Merlion comes equipped with quite an interesting composition that includes a variety of six tobaccos in all. The filler is a blend of Brazilian Bahia, Dominican Corojo, Dominican Criollo ’98, and Nicaraguan Ligero tobaccos. The binder is of the Brazilian Sumatra variety, and an Ecuadorian Corojo wrapper completes the composition.
The Merlion is being produced in three different sizes, including the 5 x 50 Robusto, 5 ½ x 54 Toro, and the 6 x 58 Gran Toro. Each size comes in boxes of 20, with a single carrying a suggested retail price between $9 and $10.50 each, depending on the size.
