Gurkha Cigars' Owner Expanding his Company's Reach

Beach Cigar Group, the company that owns Gurkha, and has recently struck a deal with Cojimar Cigars. With the deal, Beach is venturing into some new territory. Its popular Gurkha brand is known for its premium cigars that sometimes carry heavy price tags, and it will now share some of the Group's focus with some cigars of a much different variety.

Under the new deal, Beach will assume the responsibility of handling the entire distribution and warehousing of Cojimar's product line. Cojimar was founded in 1996 by Rosie Perez and has been successful in producing affordable flavored cigars that are among the top-selling in their niche. Some of the popular lines offered by Cojimar include the NU, the Earth Supernatural, and the best-selling Senorita. Many of their cigars feature tips sweetened with sugar, and flavors such as banana, chocolate, cognac, raspberry, vanilla, and many more.

Despite the success of her business, Perez desired for more exposure, hence the deal with Beach Cigar and its owner, Kaizad Hansotia. Perez will still be active in the process, and in charge of Cojimar's production from her farm in the Dominican Republic. The main difference is that she will sell her products directly to Beach, who will in turn distribute them. The light staff at Cojimar will be able to keep their positions. As for the products and packaging, they will remain as is for the time being, but Hansotia has plans to expand them in the near future.

Cojimar will benefit from the deal by adding somewhere in the neighborhood of 3,000 stores to their already strong network of distribution. The Beach Group will benefit from the deal by expanding their reach from just the premium cigar market to the affordable, convenience store market as well.

The distribution deal is just the beginning for the Beach Cigar Group. Hansotia said that he plans to completely acquire Cojimar within the next six months, and is also looking at other prospects for acquisition.
