Flag of Cuba

There is a undercover bill being floated during the same exact time as the stimulus package is being pushed through Congress. It is called the Freedom to Travel to Cuba Act which was introduced in the U.S. House of Representatives on Feb. 4th. The bill was initially brought by Rep. William Delahunt, D-Mass. This bill IF passed would also lift limits on travel by Cuban exiles residing in the U.S. Co-sponsors to the bill include representatives Rosa DeLauro, D-Conn., Sam Farr, D-Calif., and Ron Paul, R- Texas. No idea if this will pass or not - but stay tuned we will continue to cover the story! I would imagine if it did pass the Cuban embargo on exports couldn't be far behind.

Wow. Nice to see DeLauro is actually doing something! She did enough to restrict the tobacco industry in her own state, so much so that much of the famed Connecticut Tobacco is not even grown in the state any longer.

One person who was a big advocate of bills very similar to this was Congressman Christopher Shays R-Conn. This would have been a bill he would have very enthusiastic about. Unfortunately, after 21 years of excellent bi-partisan leadership he was voted out of office, losing only 4 towns in the district, substantially carried by "first time" voters... Shame

Is that sooner or later we are going to have to reopen relations with Cuba and it probably starts with a bill like this one that opens travel up first. From there I think we will slowly move towards opening up trade as well. I mean we do business with Iran and Syria and North Korea, why not Cuba?

Considering that Russia just worked out an agreement with the Cuban governement to keep russian warplanes on runways in Cuba the chances of any of this happening is very slim.
