Flavor

The flavor department is probably what most readers are concerned about.  Does the cigar have a lot of different flavors, or is it mostly repetitive?  There are numerous flavors that are often said to be found in cigars: pepper, cedar, cocoa, chocolate, coffee spice, cinnamon, earth, floral, fruit, herbal, cream, espresso, leather, molasses, nuts, salt, sweet, tobacco, grass, and the list goes on.  Now, some smokers believe that all of these flavors and descriptions are over the top, but some do feel that they can detect such a wide range of flavors in a cigar.  Everyone is different and your mileage may vary.

You can break down your flavor descriptions in thirds.  List the flavors found in the first third, second third, and final third of the cigar.  This will show how it transitions from one flavor to another.  The more flavors and transitions that are present, the more complex the cigar is.

Strength

Describe the cigar’s strength, aka its nicotine potency or spice intensity.  Is it mild or does it have strength that leans more towards the full end of the spectrum?

The wrap-up or final verdict

Finish off your review with a final verdict.  List the aspects you enjoyed, as well as the ones that were not as enjoyable.  You can also list any beverages that would go well with the cigar.  Would you purchase the cigar again?  Would you go as far as to purchase a box?  Let them know!

Don’t hold back!

Last, but not least, don’t hold back your thoughts!  If you fell in love with the cigar, say so.  If you felt it could have been better, explain where it was lacking.  Remember, you are all in this quest for great cigars together, so help your fellow smoker out.  You obviously don’t have to be overly glossy or excessively scathing in your reviews, but honesty is always the best policy.  Do not feel shy about expressing your opinions, either.  Everybody’s tastes differ, and mileage always seems to vary with cigars.
