You may think that there’s absolutely no need to write an article about the very basics of smoking a cigar. After all, it’s a no-brainer isn’t it? You choose your cigar, you cut the end off it, you light it and then start puffing on it right?

If you smoke a cigar then you undoubtedly need an ashtray, and if you don’t have an ashtray then you really shouldn’t be smoking a cigar in the house. Smoking a cigar is all about enjoyment, but there’s not much enjoyment to be had from the nagging that will follow if you just drop your ash on the floor.

We tend to look at them as a complete, singular unit and yet there are many parts to a cigar and every one of them has to be perfect if cigar smokers are to get the best from their smoking experience.

If you’ve ever wondered if size really matters, then I have to tell you that when it comes to cigars, it does. In fact size is so important with cigars that it’s measured in 1/64ths of an inch (circumference) while lengths tend to be measured by name.
