It is definitely a great time to be a cigar smoker.  Why?  Despite all the anti-smoking legislation and people wanting to rain on your parade, you have plenty of options when it comes to shopping!  This guide will breakdown the two major routes: brick and mortar and online.

If you have an older relative who introduced you to cigar smoking or if you have been a smoker for decades, you might scoff at the idea of shopping online for cigars.  After all, picking up cigars in your local brick and mortar store could be “all you know.”  Still, just like local cigar shops, online stores have their advantages too.  The route you choose to buy your cigars is completely up to you, but this guide will offer some detail into each option to help you see both sides of the story.

B&M versus Online

Before we jump into listing the advantages of each party, let’s take a quick look at the whole B&M versus online battle that seems to be going on.  Some B&M lovers feel that the introduction of online cigar sites has made the whole playing field uneven.  Since online shops don’t have to worry as much about overhead costs such as a storefront and many salespeople, it usually allows them to offer lower prices on their cigars and other accessories.  This puts pressure on the brick and mortar shops to compete, which is difficult with the overhead costs they must endure.  Factor in local taxes as well, and you can see why many cigar shops have been closing as of late.

Of course, such fierce competition isn’t just limited to cigars and the tobacco industry, as the popularity of internet shopping has done the same in other sectors as well.  So, whether it’s “fair” or not, internet shopping is here to stay, and local B&Ms must adapt to the ever-changing competitive climate if they hope to stay in business.
