What are you looking for out of your cigar shopping experience?

Whether you are shopping for cigars, shoes, or electronics, it does not matter.  Your personal preferences and requirements often decide whether you go the local retail or online route.

Many cigar shoppers enjoy B&Ms due to the overall experience they provide.  Cigars are a hobby of leisure, and the simple act of going to a cigar shop adds to the entire feeling or aura they seek when it comes to smoking.  Those who don’t really care about the experience will likely want to buy their cigars in the quickest and most efficient way, which could lead them to take the online route.

Advantages provided by brick and mortar stores

As mentioned, the main advantage offered by your local brick and mortar is the overall experience.  It’s extremely unlikely that you will receive the same personalized attention online that you would receive by walking into your local B&M.  No matter how good a website’s staff is, nothing beats help in-person.  Many customers develop personal relationships with B&M owners and staff over the years, and this continues to drive them into the stores.  Having such a relationship could have its perks, such as recommendations on certain cigars, a heads-up on when special releases will become available, or just simple everyday conversation.

On the topic of special releases, some brands will limit certain lines to brick and mortar shops, making it nearly impossible to find them online.  If you want a cigar immediately to smoke on the ride home or after dinner, you won’t be able to get it via an online site.  Also, if you are looking for some camaraderie with other smokers, local shops with lounges inside offer the perfect avenue to get it.

What about beginners?  If you have never smoked a cigar before, you might have no idea as to which one to buy.  You could head over to your local shop and simply ask the sales associate which cigars are popular for beginners, as well as any other pointers they may have.  Last, but not least, whether you’re a beginner or an aficionado, going to a B&M allows you to actually see, feel, and smell the cigars before you buy them.
