Battle of the Air Purifiers: the Alpine Air Better Living
Putting it to the Test
All Pages

istocksmallThis is the second part in my series comparing two titans of the air purification world. In our first article we look at the Oreck ProShield. In this article, we will be taking a gander at the Alpine Air Better Living Air Purifier. Which one will take the gold? Only one way to find out…

Contestant number two is the Alpine Air Better Living Air Purifier. This thing looks and feels like a tank. Pretty darn simple, square, and a minimum amount of buttons. The claims are as follows:

“The Better Living Professional Air Purification System covers up to 3,500 square feet utilizing both activated oxygen and negative ions. It can oxidize the molecules which cause odors that could contaminate indoor air and aggravate allergic reactions such as sneezing, sinus and ear irritations, asthma and itchy eyes by significantly reducing chemical gases, paint fumes, tobacco smoke, fungi and mold.

The ultraviolet light generated by the UVC Germicidal Lamp is at a wavelength of 254 nanometers and its photons have the exact energy needed to destroy the DNA of all kinds of microorganisms, including bacteria, mold spores and viruses. In fact, ultraviolet germicidal irradiation (UVGI) with UVC was recently shown in a clinical trial to significantly reduce respiratory symptoms of office workers when installed in building ventilation systems. Because UVC light kills by physical destruction of the DNA, germs cannot mutate to become resistant to ultraviolet light (as they can with antibacterial agents). “

Man, now I am scared! There are some big words in there! “Germicidal, nanometers, oxidize”, they even mention DNA and ultraviolet germicidal irradiation? Thank goodness they came right out and said “tobacco smoke”, or I would have really been confused.

I sure as heck cannot comment on those claims like I did with the Oreck…I don’t have a Ph.D.. I do have another Cohiba Esplendido.
