pb1If you're on the lookout for a hotel where you can light up, we've found luxury boutiques on both sides of the Atlantic where you can smoke your stogies in style. Cigars and luxury go hand-in-hand, so it’s no wonder luxury hotel group Red Carnation has made a stylish space for smokers in two of their boutique hotels. The group’s London and Florida boutiques offer two totally different but equally stylish spaces for smokers to light up, from the comfort of a traditional, elegant, service-driven hotel. One a plush lounge and the other an al fresco terrace, the beautifully crafted rooms offer traditional, sophisticated surroundings, whichever side of the Atlantic you’re on.

Whether you’re planning a business trip, a cultural getaway or a beach-filled party weekend, these luxury hotels could be your perfect home-away-from-home, with the added benefits of a concierge and a constantly-stocked humidor. So if a smoking haven, afternoon tea and an extensive wine list sounds up your street, take a look at these traditional English boutiques and plan you’re great cigar-filled escape now.

Montague on the Gardens
Bloomsbury, London

If you’re looking for a place to stay in the Big Smoke, and you’re hoping to enjoy a big smoke from the comfort of your hotel too, then this could be the perfect place for you. Right in the heart of Bloomsbury (which served as a literary and philosophical hub for writers like Virginia Woolf and EM Forster) this hotel strikes a quintessential, English-country chord from within the fast-paced, cultural epicentre of England’s capital. It’s an ideal location from which to explore London’s wealth of attractions, whether that’s the theatres of the West End, the furry friends of London Zoo, or the consumer delights of Regent Street, Bond Street and the many other streets you’ll be familiar with if you’ve ever indulged in a game of Monopoly. This hotel is all about afternoon tea, fluffy bathrobes and lazy evenings in the garden - it’s a peaceful, tranquil getaway hidden deep within London’s lively streets.

Where to smoke?
After a day in the life of a Londoner, you’ll want a stylish space to kick back with a cigar and relax. And Montague’s cigar terrace fits the bill perfectly. Decked out with big blankets and embroidered cushions, it’s the ideal place to light-up and take in the stunning scenery.

The terrace, which is transformed into a smokers’ haven at 5pm every evening, looks out onto the private gardens of the exclusive Bedford estate which has been owned by English Dukes for over three centuries. The hotel’s humidor is stocked with a wide selection of smokes including Romeo Y Julieta, Petit Coronas and Cohiba Siglo VI, as well as top-of-the range accessories in case you feel like treating yourself to a new cutter while you’re away.  Meanwhile, outdoor heating and a weather-proof awning mean guests can be sure of happy smoking every day of the year.

So with one hand holding your favourite cigar, you might as well pick up one of the hotel’s speciality brandies or cocktails with the other. From Louis Roederer Cristal to Laphroaig Island Malt, you’re sure to find a sophisticated tipple to suit your taste. If you get peckish you can always take a bite from the terrace’s cigar snack menu - a lip-licking selection of salted beef sandwiches, miniature burgers and chunky chips, and if you feel like beefing up your cigar knowledge rather than your belly, there’s also a selection of cigar books waiting for you to enjoy.

Hunters and Frankau have hosted a number of tutored tasting sessions on the Montague’s cigar terrace. Guests get the chance to sample a Hunters and Frankau cigar, along with a specially paired drink. The hotel also put on a barbeque so guests can smoke, drink and dine to their heart’s content - a great way to meet fellow cigar lovers and try out a few new smokes.

Towel Swans, Jam Scones and Plenty of Tea
While you’re guaranteed to love the cigar terrace, they probably won’t let you sleep on it, so you’re going to need a bed too. The boutique hotel has a wide range of quirky rooms and other great features which make it a top place to stay - and anywhere that has a pot of tea waiting for you on arrival is a winner in my book. While each extravagant room is different, the fluffy bathrobes, unlimited movies and “home-from-home” atmosphere is the same. It’s so homely in fact, that they’ll let you bring your pets along with you. And your kids if you really want to - though I’m guessing pets are preferable. The staff will also fashion swans and elephants from towels to entertain the kids, and arrange for spa therapists to carry out treatments from the comfort of your own room. With barbeques on the wooden sun-deck, afternoon tea in the conservatory and live music in the Terrace Bar, there’s plenty to keep you entertained - and the traditional jam scones with Devonshire clotted cream will definitely keep you full too.
