The Royal Shave
The Art of Shaving Barber Spa, New York
The Barber Spa combines traditional barber services with modern aromatherapy treatments. Set up by an entrepreneur and his wife, the company use specially developed products born out of botanical experiments in a Manhattan apartment. From their 1920’s inspired, leather-clad boutiques they offer their signature ‘Royal Shave’ - an exquisite experience which is definitely fit for a King.

The ‘Royal Shave’ starts with a relaxing massage using aromatherapy oils. The oils are worked into the chin and jaw, softening the beard and protecting the skin. Next, layers of gently heated shaving foam are slathered on in preparation for the Barber Spa’s unique double-shave technique.
Using a straight, cut-throat razor, the highly-skilled barbers carry out a precision shave. This first shave uses careful slices working with along the grain of the hair. Then the shaving foam is re-applied in preparation for round two, during which the barber works against the grain for what the Barber Spa claim is “the perfect shave”.
Once all your grisly bits have given way to silky smoothness, steaming towels are laid across the face while the barber prepares the fresh ingredients for his hand-made after-shave mask. Using a blend of plant extracts, the mask acts as a deep-cleanser and helps prevent nasty post-shave burns and other irritations. Once the mask is dry, it is wiped away using soft sponges soaked in lemon essential oil, before a hydrating toner is added to the face to close the pores.
And finally, a light, soothing massage is carried out using after-shave balm to leave you feel like a Prince once again. With 46 Barber Spa’s across America, this exclusive ‘Royal Shave’ can be enjoyed in 20 states from Massachusetts to Missouri.
The Beverley Hills Signature Shave
The Shave, Beverley Hills
This luxury barbers is a classic American barbershop complete with a traditional red, blue and white pole. Channelling the feel of the ‘gentleman’s club’, its varnished checkerboard floors and cosy interiors offer a woman-free zone where you can grab a drink, check the stock market and have your shoes shined. The Shave even invites gentlemen to come and ‘have a nap’ in their barber’s chair - a sinister thought with all those knifes around!

But far from the bloody barbershops of the past, the ‘Beverley Hills Signature Shave’ is an extremely enjoyable experience. Kicking back with a whiskey or a beer, Beverley Hills gents can relax into the deep leather barber’s chair to begin the indulgent towel wraps. The barber and his assistant will re-apply hot towels over layers of smoothing skin serums, preparing the skin for the shave.
The ‘Beverly Hills Signature Shave’ uses a large, straight-edge razor for an extremely macho grooming session. Followed by a hydrating mask to cool the skin, the gents who frequent this Beverley Hills salon are treated to a head, neck and hand massage.
Finishing with a cold ice towel and a spritz of English cologne for a proper gentlemanly finish, you’ll emerge from this 45-minute treatment feeling like a new man.
