Conclusion
The last thing I will say on this topic, is to do your research. Know your cigars. A lot of that “research” is going out and buying cigars and trying them. But you can also do a lot of footwork beforehand. Ask friends and family what they smoke, what works for them. Read books and magazines, and use the internet. Attend gatherings and keep up to date on the goings-on in the industry; it is easier than you might imagine.
And mostly, keep track of what you smoke. I use a cigar journal. It doesn’t have to be anything fancy; just a place to paste in your brand, write down the name, maybe describe the taste and feel. Take not of other attributes too, such as the color, the sheen, the smoothness. You may find yourself trying the same type of cigar more than once, and despite your initial response, your opinion may change over time. Keeping a journal is a nice way to remember what you thought of a cigar, and is a nice keepsake.
